18.3. Google Analytics

Perforce Chronicle provides an optional module called Analytics that facilitates collecting site-specific metrics via Google Analytics. Data collection includes all the basic Google Analytics traffic analysis, plus optional tracking variables for the active userid, the active role, the current content id, and the current content type.

[Note] No Reporting Built In

The Analytics module does not provide any reporting capabilities. You use the Google Analytics interface to explore any data collected.

To enable the Analytics module:

  1. Choose Manage > Modules. The Manage Modules screen is displayed, listing available modules.
  2. Find the Analytics module in the list of modules, either by scrolling or typing analytics into the Search field.
  3. Click the Analytics module's Enable and then Enable Module. The Analytics module is enabled.

To configure the Analytics module:

You need to have a Google Analytics account for data collection and reporting. Visit http://www.google.com/analytics/ to go through the process of signing up, and then setting up a site profile where your site metrics data can be collected.

Once you have a site profile setup at Google Analytics, its profile identifier appears beside the site name in the list of site profiles. Profile identifiers look like UA-XXXXXX-X, where each X represents a number. You need to configure the Analytics module with this identifier in step 2 below.

  1. Click the Analytics' module's Configure. The Configure Analytics screen is displayed.
  2. Enter the appropriate Google Analytics site profile identifier into the Site Profile Identifier field.
  3. Check any of the checkboxes besides the tracking variables that you wish to include during data collection.
  4. Click Save. Your Analytics module configuration is saved.
[Note] Reporting Delay

Once activated, you need to allow approximately 24 hours before collected data appears in the reports at Google Analytics. Any configuration changes to the selection of tracking variables incur a similar delay.

[Note] Reporting for Tracking Variables

To view the reports for the optional tracking variables, you need to login to Google Analytics, view the report for a site, click on the Visitors report, and then click on the Custom Variables section.
